I have a Rev. B (late 2008) MacBook Air. While I love it, it runs a bit warm, as the early MacBook Airs were known to do. From what I understand, it doesn’t get as toasty as the first-generation MacBook Airs, but its temperature does get up there. I’ve used Just Mobile’s Cooling Bar (see my review of it here) as both a passive cooling method and ergonomic accessory for some time now, which has worked quite well for me. But I’ve just found something better thanks to the kind folks at Just Mobile.
The best snowboard graphic. Ever.
I went to a ski/snowboard expo yesterday and saw this board in Burton’s booth. I was immediately smitten with it but found out that it’s a youth board that doesn’t come in the length I need.
I have half a mind to suggest to Burton that they expand this model line and make one in a 146 cm length. Who says that only boys want Star Wars graphics on their snowboards?
Yes. Yes, it is.
A little comic relief in Big Nerd Ranch’s student workbook.
Programming in the middle of nowhere
I’m in western Georgia about an hour outside of Atlanta learning iOS programming from Big Nerd Ranch. This picture was taken this morning as I took a walk before class started (with my iPhone 4S and edited using the Camera+ app).
The class is being held at Historic Banning Mills and it’s a very peaceful setting. AT&T coverage here is dismal, unfortunately, so my iPhone is less useful than usual, ironically (considering why I’m here to begin with). The remoteness of the selected location is intended to help attendees focus and it’s an effective tactic.
I’ll post more about my experiences here in the future but given the intensity of this training, I probably won’t be posting much this week. If anything, expect more pictures of trees for the rest of this week. And possibly some of squirrels. With luck, there will be no pictures of bears.
everythingiCafe: the show “Internet Nerd Fame”
It feels like we recorded two everythingicafe.com podcasts in quick succession this week, but that’s not the case – I was just slow at posting when the previous episode became available. But if you were anxiously awaiting our newest episode, it’s available via iTunes or you can listen to it right here using the embedded Flash player above.
Chris Meinck and I talked about Apple’s acquisition of 3D mapping company, C3 Technologies, reports of poor battery life in the iPhone 4S, some iOS 5 jailbreaking updates, and rumors that Apple is developing iMessage for the Mac.
My Teh Awesome selection for the week was Jetpack Joyride, a game by the same developers who created Fruit Ninja, Halfbrick Studios. Apple had done a Facebook giveaway last week offering free codes for Jetpack Joyride. I don’t believe that’s still going on but the game is only $.99 and is well worth it.
Chris’s Teh Awesome was the Slingbox Pro HD. He picked up one for his home theater system recently and is enjoying it. He’s planning on picking up the SlingPlayer Mobile iPhone app as well, which will let him watch content and control his Slingbox from anywhere.
I’m out of town next week so we won’t record the next episode until the week of November 14. Remember that we take questions and comments to play and respond to on the air at (646) 820-3431 and this break gives you plenty of time to think of a question or issue to share with us. 🙂
