Vintage Aluminum Back Panel for the iPhone 4S

June 12, 2012 by Marianne Schultz Leave a Comment

I frequently changed the back panel of my iPhone 4 when I had it (you can see my review of the most expensive replacement back I tried, the Mas Design titanium back, here) but I haven’t been as adventurous with my iPhone 4S for some unknown reason. However, that is going to change soon since I saw this beauty from K.O. Gadget yesterday and placed an order (click on the image on the left, courtesy of K.O. Gadget, to see a larger version).

K.O. Gadget is only offering it up for sale for a short period to evade an inevitable cease and desist order from Apple because of the unauthorized use of the company’s logo. As I write this post, it will only be available for sale for about one day and eight hours more.

I don’t doubt that Apple protects their logo aggressively but this still feels like a bit of a marketing ploy to encourage sales. Regardless, I ordered one. And, I also ordered the light mod kit with it. I’m not quite sure if I’ll be brave enough to install it since it requires opening up my iPhone and connecting some additional wires to power the light, which will most definitely void its warranty. However, K.O. Gadget is claiming that this new and improved light mod kit is better than the first one they released late last year which earned some bad reviews.

It will take around three weeks before everything arrives but I’ll post about it once I’ve got installed and have had a little time to use it.

everythingiCafe: the show “I think I just did a woohoo”

May 28, 2012 by Marianne Schultz Leave a Comment

Chris Meinck and I recorded episode 59 of the everythingicafe.com iPhone and iPad podcast and it’s now available in iTunes for your listening pleasure. This is our first episode in several weeks since I was traveling (which was my last trip for this year!). Apologies for our sporadic schedule recently but we really do hope to get back on our regular schedule after Chris and his family finish their move.

Chris and I talked about new iPhone rumors, the upcoming iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, and more reports of an impending 7-inch iPad to be released later this year. Hit the break for more plus our selections for the Teh Awesome segment of the podcast.

Sad, sad men

May 22, 2012 by Marianne Schultz 2 Comments

I don’t know what’s more surprising – that there’s an app for men to help them detect PMS symptoms in their wives/girlfriends, or that some men who bought it are upset that it doesn’t actually work.

Ok. I lied. I’m not surprised there’s an app like this in the App Store. I’m more disappointed that there are men out there who were really hoping this app would help them. God help the women in their lives.

A (pen) Quiver for your Moleskine notebook

May 18, 2012 by Marianne Schultz Leave a Comment

Despite the overwhelmingly digital nature of my life these days, I am still in love with paper and pens. Granted, I don’t get to use them as often as I used to when I was in school but I still enjoy a well-balanced pen that writes smoothly and crisply and a fresh pad of paper. To satisfy this need, I have a Moleskine notebook and a Pilot Hi-Tec-C pen and I try to keep them close to me wherever I go to jot down quick notes and thoughts. However, keeping a pen with that notebook has always proven to be harder than I thought, at least until now.

I came across the Quiver, a product by Quiver Global thanks to The Gadgeteer. It’s an elastic and leather contraption that attaches to a hardcover notebook and holds a pen or two for you. The single-pen version slips over the spine of your notebook and the double-pen version slips over the front cover. Though I only wanted a single-pen holder, I didn’t want that version interfering with my ability to keep the notebook open and write in it, so I opted for the double-pen version since that slides on over the front cover instead of the spine.

Status: Away

May 15, 2012 by Marianne Schultz Leave a Comment

I’m in Arizona visiting family, which is why I haven’t posted anything here recently. We’re doing the tourist thing and visited the Grand Canyon, the red rocks of Sedona, and Montezuma Castle. I’ve only passed through Phoenix before on connecting flights and this is my first time actually spending time in Arizona and it’s been a great trip so far.

I’ve posted some pictures using Instagram – you can see my Instagram gallery in the sidebar on the right or follow me on Instagram using the iPhone app (my user name is marianne). Chris and I plan to record a podcast episode when I get back home this week and I hope to get back into my routine more quickly than I did following the trips I took earlier this year. Next up on my review list are the Capta, as mentioned in my Dodocase review, and the Just Mobile Xtand Go for the iPhone 4/4S. The Capta is a stand/tripod mount accessory for smartphones that was provided to me courtesy of BiteMyApple.co and the Xtand Go is an in-car mount for the iPhone, provided courtesy of Just Mobile.
